15 Sep 08 Another Pissed Off LabCorp Patient

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of emails about abused patients. I’ll be posting some of the more interesting ones. This one sums up the treatment that one can expect from a LabCorp service center. My recommendation, go somewhere else. Boycott LabCorp and let your doctor know that your health is too important to be left to the lowest bidder.

Hello,

I am a 54 year old woman who had to get my cholesterol blood screening done today at LabCorp (which by the way is the only lab that my insurance covers).

The local office opens at 7:30 AM…i was first in line outside a locked door saying that this office opened at 7:30…two employees (female) ..opened the door and myself and at least 10 others entered a “small” waiting room…i put my name down on the sign in board and gave them my card…wellllll the “girl” at the front desk proceeded calling others before me….i said “excuse me but i signed in first…, the “worker” said “Dont you argue with me…..you didn’t sign it….i said i did..she said “Quit fighting with me”….i was shocked and humiliated…they had put another sign in sheet over the original one i had signed in on…when i showed them this they told me to go “sit down” …i then got called and of course i got the lab tech (very unprofessional) who jabbed my arm….couldn’t get the blood to start flowing then jabbed in deeper and wiggled it!!! I said “stop you are hurting me!!” she told me to “lay my arm down flat”……and then she snapped the band off….i now have a sore arm and a bruise….the first i have ever had….i HATE going to this place…when i got back to work…i called the office and asked for the name of the girl who had been so rude to me….she hung up on me…i called back..and the other girl said  that i had “jumped line” i said WHHHATTT??…I DO NOT “JUMP” LINE… I AM A 54 YEAR OLD PROFESSIONAL WOMAN AND BY THE WAY I WORK FOR AN INSURANCE COMPANY…I DO NOT JUMP LINE”….she finally and reluctantly gave me the name of their supervisor…which i intend to talk to… I find it very hard to believe that this place stays open…first of all they herd you outside like your standing in line for drugs or something…then the pure rudeness of  their employees astounds me…..they are dangerous….and I will NEVER  GO BACK….there is no excuse for the substandard care and the poor and malicious attitudes of their employees…..please let me know what i can do or who i can talk to ..i want to make sure the right person hears of my experience…..i do intend telling my health care provider and my doctor about this…..

Thanks,
NAME WITHHELD

I must say, I am really sorry to know you were treated in a bad way. This si not the way to treat any one . I understad that you are up set and that the work was un professional . there are no excues for that behaviotr . calling the site manager , and the customer service office and request to talk to there VP of Phlebotomy. that should take care of that .

Hey, this is LabCorp through and through. Management is rife with corruption and they don’t care about patients, clients or results. It’s all a big cash grab. To hell with service and genuine concern for our primary mission, i.e. providing accurate and timely results to doctors and hospitals, so that their patients can receive the proper care. LabCorp sucks!

I work for lab corp and have for 20 years. They are not perfect, but I can tell you complaints about other laboratories… the fact of the mater is that no company, lab or other wise is with out complaints from people. Lab Corp is a great company so say what you will and go find another lab that has NO complaints.. Get a life!

the 54 year old lady who was “treated badly” sounds like she needs a good friend…some patients have to go first because they have a timed test. Give the employee some credit in knowing what she needs to do. If in fact she was so rude call her manager, they know who was working at the time, so you don’t need to get a name. Also…next time you go to any office, take a good book and enjoy the time to read!!!

its sad to hear there are phlebotomists with bad attitudes, personally they should be weened out. ive been with the company for 8 years and my PSC has a great staff, with great patients that come regularly. i will say not every patient comes in happy, but u kill em with kindness and they will leave happy. ive heard rediculous comment cards and i feel some of you people are anal about the way you are treated or how the psc looks. ragging about our radio antenna is just pathetic!!!! but people will be people i guess! c ya tomorrow im sure bright and early waiting at the door BEFORE we even open.

I am a current employee, trying to keep my head down while a crap-storm of incompetence rages around me. Our location is over-worked, understaffed, and incredibly stressed. Communication with management is non-existent. Everyone is so busy trying to swim upstream against impossible odds, everything that does get done is mediocre at best.

As a long time employee who has seen a lot of changes, may I say that some people will whine no matter what you do for them. Yes, we are understaffed, over worked, and under paid, but find a company now whose employees are not. At least I’m employeed. I know several people who couldn’t take it, who have left their jobs and have tremendous diffuculty finding a new position. And all of them ended up taking a pay cut just to be employeed. Our service center treats people, ALL people, with total respect and our phlebs are well liked. The only problem we have is with upper management. Their constant refrain is “We can’t hire any more people right now because the stock holders aren’t happy.” Bull. A small portion of the CEO’s yearly bonus would pay the salaries of MANY new employees. I would dispute the comment above about mediocre work. At our center, everything we do is done as if the patient was our mother or our self. Nothing less. To those who have trouble with change, may I recommend the book “Who Moved My Cheese?”
Either learn to get along or get out and make room for someone who wants to work. Unfortunately, you’re going to find the work environment is virtually the same everywhere you go.
When money speaks, truth is silenced.

To HRS: Former employees who were fired for crashing a company car while drinking on the job should not be posting bizarre comments on a vindictive web site such as this.

It is sad that there’s so many unhappy people working for this company. I’ll tell you, the problem is with understaffing, overworked phlebotomist that are treated poorly by upper management. There’s good employees and there’s bad. The good, which I consider myself to be are never told they’re doing a good job. There’s constant threats by upper management that you aren’t performing to their specifications. You can work 10-12 hours, no lunch, no breaks, and it’s not enough. You can treat each and every patient with respect, and kindness, and be gentle with them, it’s not enough. You can get compliments from numerous patients, it’s not enough.

We had a supervisor come to our site, and draw blood on a patient and not label the tubes, and she also left the blood laying, without taking it to the processing room. Two of us had to figure out after processing all other orders whose blood it actually was. Supervisors are not beyond making mistakes, but at LabCorp they think they are.

I know of phlebotomists who are harassed, have been physically handled by another employee, (slapped), and the supervisor did nothing when told. I know of phlebotomists that have come to work drunker than a skunk. LabCorp needs revamping and it all starts at the top. The phlebotomists are under paid and certainly not appreciated for their hard, demanding work.

Sad that a big company has such little regard for the people that ultimately keep the company in business.
