11 Jul 09 LabCorp Experience

I received an email from Tonya, who reminded me of my personal experiences with the service centers. The sad part is that LabCorp managers will backup the employees and defend their actions by telling their higher ups that the centers were in fact open at the time that they were supposed to. This makes it look like the manager is doing his/her job.

This is the most horrible lab services EVER ! They lie about what time they open. Out of three locations that state they open @ 7am none of them were open, nor could I reach anyone on the phone !

P.S. – They close earlier than they are supposed to as well.

I am writing to complain about the Lab Corp on Boland Farm Road in Germantown Maryland 20874.

I have no choice over the past 4 years(due to my insurance coverage) but to go to lab corp. The wait has always been at least an hour. This is outrageous in this day and age. I am a Registered nurse of 33 years and cannot believe that any business can run like this.
I have called ahead, been there an hour before it opened, gone in the middle of the day NPO and the situtation is always the same.

I have had a lab slip since 6/1/09 and have attempted (as an NPO client) 3 times to have this blood drawn at the Germantown location. Each time the waiting room is full and the wait is an hour. I still haven’t had it done. I have to miss work or spend my day off planning this and I might add my cardiologist is asking for the results.

The sign in sheet states the time a client arrives and I noticed beside the name was the # of minutes the client waited. I challange the time waiting to be honest. Most of the wait time said 30 minutes. That was first thing in the am. I spoke to some of the clients and they said that didn’t account for the time they were in the hall waiting to go in.
I asked for another location and it is either too far or they told me they were just as busy.

I have contacted my husbands Human Resource Dept. to look into another Lab. The enormous company that he works for use to contract with Quest. For 10 years I was a client of theirs and never had this problem.

    Outraged in Germantown Maryland,

I agree wholeheartedly with Janice. The service is abysmal, to have to allow half a day for a simple blood draw is outrageous. The inadequate facilities put the staff under pressure so they are usually surely and grumpy. A visit to Lab Corp is always an unpleasant experience. Quest was much better but my insurance company also insists on lab corp now so I have no choice.

I contacted a person named Tracy about 3 months ago about my bill that they billed my insurance with the wrong ID number because we have COBRA and was told it will be redone, the information came from a Colon Surgeons office from a biopsy. I have no idea where they got the info they used from it is even should have been BCBS of Illinois and they have sent me a collections notice saying that there is no longer any excuse for failing to resolve my account after writing letters giving info again, talking to the doctors office, calling them and they still can’t get it right. I will refuse to have any blood test using them again and I have heart disease and had 3 heart attacks.

I agree that the wait is really long. However, I think that the staff, overall, does an exemplary job of dealing with it. The long line is really not the staff’s fault, yet almost every time I’ve been there, several patients will take out their frustrations on the staff, who generally keep their patience and maintain an even tone.

Hopefully, now that the 2nd LabCorp facility has opened in Germantown, the overall wait times will be reduced.
